Education Outreach Programs at Salado Isolation Mining Contractors invites you to complete this form to request SIMCO volunteers. Volunteers explain STEM concepts, conduct STEM demonstrations, mentor, judge and offer career information for teachers and students to bring science to life in K-12 classrooms. Engagement with the education community is intended to spark an interest in STEM fields with emphasis on DOE mission critical skills and careers. Volunteers in the classroom partner with educators to build a pipeline of college/career ready students who graduate with the technical skills necessary to support a capable workforce.

Science Bowl

The Science Bowl is a fast-paced academic competition that offers teams of high school students from the southeast region of New Mexico a chance to match their wits in math and science. The winner of the DOE/SIMCO Regional Science Bowl will advance to the National Science Bowl® in Washington, D.C., April 2026, all expenses paid!

Teacher Mini Grants

SIMCO STEM Education Mini grants. The program is open to K-12 educators in public and private schools in Lea and Eddy County and recognizes and celebrates STEM teaching methodologies by providing funds to enhance elementary, middle and high school curriculum in the areas of STEM.

Mini-grant proposals will go live on September 15, 2025

STEM Buddy

STEM Buddy is a way for your students to engage with a real engineer, scientist, IT professional, etc. As a class or organization, your students can write a letter or list of questions about STEM careers or STEM topics to your very own expert! The possibilities are endless!

Teachers can access STEM Buddy jot form and send student STEM questions to be answered by WIPP subject matter experts (two week turn around)
