Education Commitment
Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO) is committed to inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals in southeast New Mexico. From classroom volunteers, Teacher STEM Mini-Grants, the STEM Buddy program and student scholarships to the DOE/SIMCO Regional Science Bowl. SIMCO stands by investing in students, educators, and communities that will carry the DOE mission forward for decades to come.
Science Bowl
The DOE/SIMCO Regional Science Bowl is a fast-paced, academic competition that offers teams of high school students from the southeast region of New Mexico a chance to match their wits in math and science. The winning team will advance to the National Science Bowl® in Washington, D.C.
Teacher Mini-grants
SIMCO’s Mini-Grant program supports STEM education and hands-on learning in local classrooms. The program provides $1,000–$2,000 grants to K–12 educators in Lea and Eddy counties to enhance STEM curriculum and bring innovative teaching approaches to life.
STEM Buddy
The SIMCO STEM Buddy program connects local students with SIMCO engineers, scientists, IT professionals and other WIPP subject matter experts. Students can submit questions about STEM careers and topics through their teachers and receive responses directly from a SIMCO expert.
Scholarship Program
The SIMCO Scholarship Program supports local students pursuing education beyond high school. Each year, SIMCO awards scholarships to 20 local high school seniors, recognizing academic achievement and helping students pursue their educational goals while strengthening the future of Southeast New Mexico.
